Please......

Jacob has been working hard to learn more and more signs everyday. We encourage him to use the signs for please and thank you and many times he does a great job. But Dave often kids that he looks like a third base coach. He covers all of his bases to using every sign that he knows in hopes that he gets the right one. He will repeat the sign to me but often does get confused on what sign he should be doing. But we are making great progress.

This past summer Dave picked out a red metal pickup truck at my brothers garage sale. Dave thought it was a cool truck and my nephew was happy to make some money on his toys he wanted to sale. Little did we know that would become "The Truck". Every time we bring out the red truck Emily and Jacob both fight over who is going to get a turn at playing with it.

One morning after Dave and Emily already left for the day I was in the kitchen picking up the dishes and straightening up after breakfast. Jacob was in the living room playing with some of the trucks that were already out. When all of a sudden he appeared in the hallway making noises and calling "hey" to get my attention. He then was pointing to his room indicating that he wanted to me to follow him. So I followed him into his room and then he was pointing at the red pickup truck doing the sign for please. I was so very proud of my little boy at that moment! He got his point across perfectly and used his manners besides! I happily gave him the truck to play with!

This past weekend we went to the children's Christmas parties at both mine and Dave's employers. Jacob has never really had anything that he was able to be considered only his. Many of the gifts that we sent for him after we were matched he was not able to bring with him or had to share with the other children that was in his foster parents home. So when Jacob received a big yellow bus for a gift he was more than ecstatic. He did not want to let the truck out of his sight. So when it was finally time to leave to go to the next party he was not happy when Dave tried to put his coat on him and made him put the truck down. He was not satisfied until Dave had him in one arm and Jacob's truck on the other.

Once we got to the next party we got in line to see Santa. So far Santa has not been a big hit with Jacob. In fact he screamed his head off which is understandable I have not many young children that actually like Santa at his age and he probable has never seen a Santa with the exception of the last week. Mrs. Santa was quick on her and gave him his present. He than decided that Santa was ok and was very pleased to get another gift. As time came to leave he again become upset when we attempted to take away his new gift and try and put his coat on. He became happy again when Dave picked him and his new gift up and carried them to the van. Once in his seat he had a death grip on this very large Thomas the Train set full of flash cards and crayons. The case it came in was bigger than he was. All the way home all I could see where little hands on either side of the case and the top of Jacob's hat. But I could definitely hear the happy sounds of a little boy getting his first Christmas presents. What until he sees what will be under the tree for him!!
