This afternoon started out with a grilled cheese sandwich revolt and ended with a KFC celebration.
After Jacob had his morning nap we did our usually lunch; which consisted of grilled cheeses sandwiches for Jacob and me, Lipton Cup of Soup for Emily and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for Dave. We have been doing this since are stay started here at the Somerset. Well Jacob was not happy all he did was tear up his sandwich into little pieces. He told us in no uncertain terms that he was sick of grilled cheese and so far he has not turned down anything. We should have known the direction our day was heading.
We had wanted to do some shopping in the Old Quarter of Hanoi and since we really didn’t have any specific destination Dave decided we should just walk. So we walked down to the lake where the old quarter is located to check out some of the shops that align the streets throughout the area. I started carrying Jacob in the Hip Hammock.. He was pointing at many items and was babbling as if to give me a description of what he was showing me. It was if he was my own personal tour guide of Vietnam
Lets just say that one street started to look like another and we spent two hours trying to find our way back to the lake, so we would then have familiar surroundings. During that time we were offered at least 100 rides on rickshaw bicycles asked to buy at least 50 lighters that said Vietnam and various other items from the vendors. We were all hot and sweaty and very tired. I do not even know how many times we had a close call with all of the traffic, while crossing the street or walking because all of the sidewalks are used for motorcycle parking. Talk about an unplanned adventure!
Finally we found a familiar street corner and head toward the lake. As we were getting ready to cross yet another street I stepped into a hole, twisted my ankle and fell hitting my knee and right palm. I was holding Emily’s hand at the time so she came down with me. Other than a few bruises of both my knee and hand and well as my ego everyone was ok. Luckily I was not carrying Emily or Jacob at the time! At that point we had just about had it so we found an ice cream shop and had ice cream and ice cold bottle water. It was a much needed break! During our treat we were scolded many times to change Jacob because his outfit was all wet from being next to Dave in the Hip Hammock.
While we were having our ice cream we decided that we needed a taste of home. There was a KFC right across the street. Yes KFC as in Kentucky Fried Chicken. So we crossed the street one more time ordered a family bucket and hailed a taxi back to the hotel. So last night we had a wonderful dinner of Kentucky Fried Chicken. It was enjoyed by all especially Jacob. He ate a whole piece himself! The funny part of it is that Dave and I have been married for 13 years and we have only eaten Kentucky Fried Chicken twice. Once in China and then last night in Vietnam! Luckily we have enough leftover for tonight’s dinner!

How well I remember the KFC run Grace and I made in China. That is one of my favorite memories of Emily's adoption journey. KFC never tasted so good, even though 5of the ten pieces in bucket were wings!
